Digitization

Digitization

digitizationIn the current day to day life, digital technologies are being integrated into people's lives. The business side of business technologies is reflected by digitization. It focuses on the application of digital resources to create revenue and value for products. It can simply be termed as a technical transformation of analog assets into information -based resources. It is based on changing business terms as opposed to transactional technologies. One may ask what digitizing is all about; a simple meaning of the term is that it is the representing an object, image, sound, signal or documents by a discrete set of its points or samples. It is the capturing of an analog signal in a digital form.

The shift to digitization in the contemporary world has obviously created implications to the traditional products since more and more people embrace the new technologies showing their backs to the former. The limitations of digitization are quite unclear but it has shortcomings and as you may have noticed the more technological advances the less need for traditional technologies. The significance of digitizing information is that it makes it easier to preserve, share, and access. For example, historical information can be accessed by people who visit the physical locations but the information can be made available to all people worldwide by digitizing the information. The world is experiencing immense growth in digitization of historical and cultural data.

Perhaps to look at the advantages of digitization, information that one needs can be accessed via the internet in full text or as digitalized data. The internet is available everywhere and at all times so it even makes it easier to access information. One can access multiple data simultaneously. Information forms archival resources and digitizing it maintains its usability and accessibility. Digitization is now a necessity and no longer a matter of choice, it saves on the amount of space, cost, and manpower, handling of the materials, security and proper accountability. Many people are for digitization but there could be a few who are against the technology, for example, those who do not know how to use computers will be against digitization because they are insecure with themselves. There can also be an instance where one has seen the great advantages of digitization but becomes against it due to the financial constraints. In digitization one is required to have some guidelines in mind; firstly, the information that is to be digitized and why one needs it digitized, secondly one requires the hardware and the software, then they also need internet connections and the connectivity such as whether they have to use broadband, wireless, cable connections dial up or via LAN. An individual needs the technical staff and a location. Successful implementation of digitization creates ease in the accessibility of the tonnes of information that can be seen as almost impossible to be done physically.
